Iphone 2.2 Doesnt Just Change Safari

As we showed you earlier, Apple seeded iPhone Software v2.2 beta 1 to developers last week, and some images of the new Safari were leaked showing some changes in its interface. Since then a few more have popped up that show that Safari isn’t the only thing Apple has changed.

Further inspection revealed that they’ve also made a few minor tweaks to the App Store application on the phone as well. The first is a new categories page featuring icons instead of just the category name in the current software:

They also changed the display page for the individual apps, moving the “Tell a Friend” option from the title bar to below the app, and they’re adding a “Report a Problem” function to allow shoppers to report problematic apps to Apple:

Note: This may not only be what changes with the new firmware 2.2. We’ll have to wait and see.

Whats so new about 2.2?

-Fixes bugs

-Better battery life

-Different layout for safari

-Possible a change with “ipod/videos”

Not to must information at this point since 2.2 is still in beta. Not to get confused with 2.0.2. As the dev team annonced ealier jailbreak does work with 2.2.

New 2.2 Firmware coming.

¬†Apple has seeded iPhone 2.2 Beta 1 to developers. The build is being seeded for “compatibility testing” and there is no mention of new features or changes in this build. A new beta build of the iPhone SDK (build 9M2611) has been seeded alongside the OS X iPhone beta. It is possible that Apple is including the highly anticipated push notification service which will allow developers to send out notifications similar to the way SMS notifications appear now.

Apple has made some slight changes to the Safari application. From the screenshot, the folks in Cupertino seem to have moved some things around in the top portion of the app. The “search” icon has been removed and a search field has been integrated right into the bar. The “stop” and “refresh” buttons also seem to be moved into the location bar

Update: What we’ve noticed so far:

Significantly improved reception (my iPhone went from having no service anywhere in my neighborhood to having 1-2 bars in my house, which rocks, btw)
The screenshot feature now makes a camera shutter noise
Typing on the keyboard is much smoother
App downloads can now be paused by tapping on them
Updated apps now stay in the same spot they were put in before they were updated
